The Small Glories – “Way Down Yonder In A Minor Key”
The Small Glories are a brand new musical union between folk/roots artists Cara Luft (co-founder and former member of the Wailin’ Jennys) and JD Edwards. The duo is creating a buzz in their home-base of Winnipeg, a city well-known for its long history of remarkable musical talent, their abilities as both strong lead and harmony singers, their shared history of growing up singing in musical families, combined with their songwriting prowess and musical chops all contribute to the uniqueness of their partnership. Get of little taste and listen to the old-timey stringed goodness:
Red Tail Ring – “Gibson Town”
Red Tail Ring, the musical brainchild of old-time-minded Michiganders Michael Beauchamp and Laurel Premo, recently released their fourth album, Fall Away Blues; the duo infuses each song with musical imagination, haunting harmonies and instrumental artistry on fiddle, banjo, mandolin, jawharp, and plain-old foot stomping. Woven together by their signature instrumental variety and close harmony singing, the album spins tales of hard times, changing love, and the challenge of finding a place in the world. We love the soul-tugging rootsy feel of “Gibson Town”, and you will too:
John Prine (ft. Holly Williams) – “I’m Tellin’ You”
Earlier this week, legendary Americana artist John Prine released his new video for “I’m Telling’You” featuring Holly Williams; Holly’s grandfather may be the great Hank Willams, but she’s channeling her grandmother, Audrey, in this country classic. The track comes from Prine’s forthcoming album For Better, Or Worse, out September 30th via Oh Boy/Thirty Tigers, featuring covers and duets from prominent women in the roots and country worlds. See the masters in action in the video for “I’m Telling’ You”:
