Premiere: “New Love” by The National Reserve

The National Reserve cut their teeth doing residencies in Brooklyn clubs, vying for the thinly-spread attention of each night’s crowd–and they got really good at it. Their sound is already a classic, a unique rockicana blend that’s all their own. “Who do they sound like?” you might ask…well, they sound like The National Reserve.

Now, the band is gearing up to release their debut full-length album, Motel La Grange, out May 11th via Ramseur Records–today, they unleash their new single “New Love,” a reflective and wistful tune about coming to terms with the end of a relationship, that simmers with road-worn grit and honesty. “This song was written the morning after my girlfriend broke the news to me that she would be moving back home to take care of her mom,” recalls vocalist Sean Walsh. “It was the weekend of my birthday, and I had completely lost my voice but was able to just get the lyrics down. It was the middle of summer and it was hot as all Hell. “New York was pretty unbearable during that heatwave. At that moment, I understood why all the cards were being dealt the way they were,” he adds, but still felt that a plea would change her mind–the perfect recipe for one heckuva gut-punching tune.
