In the midst of turbulent times, our natural tendencies lead our focus to the negative; sometimes, we need someone to encourage us to take a step back and look around for a moment to gain perspective on the journey—and to understand that sometimes, beauty can be found in the midst of the chaos.
Singer/songwriter Jesse Terry does just that with his new video for “Kaleidoscope,” a track from his recently-released album, Stargazer. “The song was written about unpredictable people who have different facets to their personalities,” Terry explains. “Folks that can let you down, but then also appear to be so bright and beautiful in the same moment. So the song is really about letting go of these toxic influences and being strong enough to go on your own. In the video it was cool to place the paper lanterns in the river and watch them slowly glide away,” he adds. “It was truly healing and cathartic for me, like writing and recording the song.”
Filmed in Newcastle, England, during a short break on a recent tour in the United Kingdom, Terry says that videographer Cain Scrimgeour’s stunning use of color, filters, nature and time-lapse cinematography throughout the video really captured his vision—a turbulent journey through beauty, raging seas, painted skies, pounding rain, open fields, and bitter storms. “Ultimately I found peace of mind and freedom at the end of my journey, and I wanted to convey that feeling through the song, the recording, and the video,” he continues. “‘Kaleidoscope’ is one of my favorite songs on the new Stargazer album and I’m thrilled to have it down on film.”
