Live Show Review: Jonathan Tyler at Mercy Lounge

Texas-based troubadour Jonathan Tyler performed recently at local venue Mercy Lounge, providing opening support for Ron Pope & The Nighthawks.  Tyler, who has played Mercy Lounge many times, appeared solo this time, equipped with a guitar, a harmonica, and a kick drum (at one point, he introduced the “band” saying, “…and on the kick drum, my right foot!”).

The raspy-voiced sass machine quickly shed his leather jacket and asked for a towel (I’m telling y’all, it was hot in there), and wowed us with his bluesy tunes.  Tyler reminded me of a young Bryan Adams with his song “Honey Pie”, brought Nashville alt-country darling Nikki Lane to the stage to sing their fantastically solid duet, “To Love Is To Fly”, and ended his time with us by playing crowd sing-along favorite, “Gypsy Woman”.  If you missed the fun in the Music City, be sure to catch Tyler on tour with Ron Pope & The Nighthawks when he comes to your hometown.  You won’t be sorry!
